PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Lady Elks

Looking forward, looking back, looking forward – always forward.

As we start the year looking forward we set goals, dates, and plan for the future. But we cannot do that without looking back – where we have been and what we have done.
Sitting and reflecting on the past few years and what the Ladies have done, it boggles my mind that a small group of women have planned parties, decorated for parties, provided food and concession workers for Bingo, gathered donations for Bay Cliff, saved their Super One and Econo slips, turned in 365 Banks, brought in a “ton” of soda tabs, donated toys for Toys for Tots, held a rummage sale, provided a holiday atmosphere for Christmas and provided funds to replaced carpeting, and generally helped whenever they were called upon! From the bottom of my heart, thank you Ladies.

Closing Bingo left us with some dry goods, soda, etc. Those items were brought to the Caring House. The popcorn machine and the remaining supplies were donated to First Lutheran Ev. Lutheran Church here in Iron Mountain for their community movie night.

In December we met at Gina Marie’s where we were provided a meeting room complete with a fireplace. Each of us went home with a gift courtesy of Exalted Ruler Barney that made our holiday a bit cheerier. Lively conversations, laughter and good food for all.

Looking forward, we will not be meeting in January or February. With all of the inclement weather we have had (as I write this I believe it is the first day over 5° in the morning for a long, long time) we will not meet again until March 19th.

“Over and over I marvel at the blessings of my life: each year has grown better than the last.”
Lawrence Welk

Until next time,Lady Elks

LADY ELKS

The Lady Elks of the Iron Mountain Lodge #700 was organized on February 17, 1932, as an auxiliary to the Iron Mountain Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks -  in short Elks #700 - to assist the Elks #700 with its endeavors.  Over the years we have had an impressive history of holding teas, fashion shows, Christmas Gala, Christmas parties for our area children, the Pumpkin Patch, we organized donations of dresses, shoes, and accessories for the first Prom to be held at Bay Cliff Health Camp, summer luaus complete with the roasted pig, Sweetheart Dances, decorating  for Christmas and special parties, providing scholarships for our area graduating youth, assisting with Lodge improvements and expenses, providing the concessions for Monday night Bingo, and so much more.  We have made friends and are willing volunteers

As an auxiliary organization we are here to support Elks #700 and assist with its charities and activities.  Joining us gives you an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our areas children, veterans, in our Lodge and our surrounding communities.  In fact, nationally the value of the Elks’ charitable works, since its inception in 1868, is valued at over four billion dollars.  It is not all work.  We socialize, make new friends, reconnect with those we have not seen for a time and support each other in times of need.

We are an organization with a rich and wonderful history.  We meet on the third Wednesday of every month from September through June at 5:00 p.m. for social hour and dinner at 6:00 p.m.   Dues are currently $10.00 a year. It is a great way to meet new people and have some fun.   If you are unable to drive, call and we will arrange transportation for you.
